Hi, Friends......

I realized I hadn't made a stenciled card for the Winnie & Walter WCMD 2017 Challenges, so it is a race against time for me (who is both the slowest cardmaker AND the slowest blogger on earth!!) to get this posted in under the wire.

Then after making my first stenciled background and die cutting the JOY, I liked it so much that I decided to make another one for a set.  Eeek!!

Will I get these blogged and linked up in time??? We'll see.....

My backgrounds are stenciled with Distress Inks and then heat embossed with clear sparkly powder. LOVE!!!! My glittery word die cuts are layered and off set slightly over white cardstock.
Supplies used include:
Winnie & Walter - Scenery: Multi-Faceted Creative Screenings
Distress Ink in Tumbled Glass, Spun Sugar, and Shaded Lilac
Clear Sparkle Embossing Powder
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Audrey Cutaways die set
Winnie & Walter - In a Word: Joy Cutaway die
Winnie & Walter - In a Word: Noel Cutaway die
DCWV Glitter Cardstock
Core'dinations heavy duty white cardstock
Pretty Pink Posh - Sparkling Clear Mix sequins
DCWV Premade Pastel Card Bases
Hope you enjoyed seeing my pretty pastel Christmas cards. I wish you could see how sparkly they in real life!! Thank you for bearing with me on this last-minute flurry of W&W cards. Thank you, Shay, for another fun WCMD event!! You are so kind and generous.

Hi, Friends....

I am here with a quick card for Mrs. A's Butterfly Challenge where the theme this fortnight is Butterfly/ies plus A is for Any Shape (not square/rectangle) &/or Q is for Quartz...which can be nearly any color. So this in effect is almost an Anything Goes Butterfly Shaped Card Challenge.

When I think of Quartz, I think of a sparkly white or pale yellowish-orange stone...like ocean sand. I  have native quartz rock in my yard.
Quartz chunks found on our property.
My son finds small chunks of it all the time as he is tending the property. He saves it in a little pile.  Perhaps we'll edge a flower bed with it sometime. Geologists have traced the quartz in our area back to the neighboring state of Montana. It was deposited across Idaho by glaciers some time back in history.

For my card, I used a sparkly DCWV pre-made card blank that I die cut with a scalloped circle die for the shape.  Oops...I cut it too close to the fold.  No matter.  I scored the back piece to fold open a half inch from the botched top and glued the tops together inside.  Problem solved!

I used a piece from my stack of marker refill water backgrounds.  I came to the sudden epiphany that these qualify as "smooshed"!   They are not smooshed in the more familiar way of adding ink to an acrylic block or craft mat, misting, and then smooshing.  Instead, they are smooshed because I misted the sheets of paper that were intensely colored and smooshed a fresh sheet of paper on top to allow some of the ink to transfer.  So...they are smooshed.  That's my story and I am sticking to it!!  :)

Since Quartz was one of the Butterfly Challenge elements, I wanted to go sparkly with my card. I chose a glittery card base, sparkly embossing powder for my sentiment, a butterfly sticker with holographic outlines, and a crystal flourish. Love how this card gleams. I had to actually photograph it in my own shadow to be able to show the details without it looking like one big sparkle!! :)
Supplies used include:
Sizzix - Circles, Scallop die set
Winnie & Walter - Scenery: Bigger Bang Confetti stamp set (limited edition, no longer available)
Winnie & Walter - In a Word: Happy stamp set
Doodlebug - Mini Doilies in Limeade
Zva Creative - Crystal flourish

Hope you enjoyed my card today. Thank you for all your comments and encouragement. Hope your day is a delight!!

Hi, Friends.....

I am here with a set of Christmas cards for the Winnie & Walter WCMD 2017 Challenges. You have all week to link up, so I hope you will join in the fun!!! Shay challenged us in her W&W WCMD Variations Challenge to make a set of cards using mostly the same supplies with some changes.

I used the stamp set featured in the Rerun Challenge, Winnie & Walter - Our Town, to make a little wintery church scene. I wanted a primitive, snowy look so I only stamped the scene one time to let the imperfections do their own thing! :) I switched out the layers, but kept to the red/black/white color scheme. I added a little white glitter for snow on the ground and a dazzling rhinestone for the sun.

Supplies used include:
Winnie & Walter - Our Town stamp set
Versafine ink in Onyx Black
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Audrey Cutaways die set (has scallops)
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set
Darice - Snowflakes embossing folder
American Crafts - WOW! Super-fine Glitter - White

Hope you enjoyed seeing this set of Christmas cards. I am way behind on making them, so I am glad to have a good excuse to make a few multiples!! Thank you for stopping by and leaving your sweet comments.

Hi, Friends......

Did you have a chance to make any cards for World Card Making Day on Saturday? I made only one that day
(very pleased I got at least that one made!).....but I am participating in Winnie & Walter's WCMD Challenges. They go on all week, so you can still get in on the fun!!

Here's a Craftie ..... a shot of the card in progress!  (Sorry for the lighting.)

For this card, I stamped a background for the Winnie & Walter WCMD 2017 Background Building/Pattern Making Challenge. I rarely stamp my own background and instead rely on patterned paper, so this was a great challenge for me. I used leaves from two different sets: gold heat embossed leaves from Winnie & Walter - In Bloom: Hollie's Festive Florals stamp set and a small tree (which I think looks like a leaf) from the Winnie & Walter - Kindness with Evelin T Designs stamp set which I stamped with Distress Inks and misted heavily with water to give a distressed, washed out look.

Do you like the autumny focal stamp? My son found this one at a thrift store and knew I would love it. What a terrific son! <3 He finds me some totally awesome stamps!!

Supplies used include:
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set
Winnie & Walter - In Bloom: Hollie's Festive Florals stamp set
Winnie & Walter - Kindness with Evelin T Designs stamp set
Distress Ink in Candied Apple, Carved Pumpkin, Aged Mahogany, and Vintage Photo
Unidentified Autumn Stamp - from thrift store
Versamark Ink
Gold embossing powder
Ribbon from stash

Thank you so much for stopping by today and for your sweet comments!!!

Hi, Friends.......

I am back with one more card for the wonderful Winnie & Walter September Color Combo Challenge and this time I actually stuck with the theme as well as the colors!! :)

Each year our church hosts a Friendly Fall Festival of activities spanning several days in October which includes a Saturday of apple picking and cider pressing. So.Much.Fun.!!!! This takes place at the nearby farm of friends who are cattle ranchers and honey producers. They graciously let us use their roomy honey house for the pressing along with other fun games and activities for the kids.

It is a fabulous community event where everyone brings apples from their own trees or picked from the "wild" trees that abound up here in our little community.  Then we all help with the processing.  Once done, we all go home with some DELICIOUS cider. Oh, my....so wonderfully sweet!! As you can imagine, this is at no small inconvenience to these generous farmers....so I always try to make an apple-themed thank you card of some kind as a token of my appreciation.
Interesting note about apples: What residents here call "wild" apples are actually ones planted by homesteaders, beginning when this area was opened up in the late 1800s. Everyone wanted apple trees on their homestead and a big apple dryer was erected for community use. The dryer is no longer standing (only the huge round foundation is still visible) but many of the apple trees persist and are still bearing, though not as vigorously as in their prime.
Apples are amazingly long-lived and can bear in some capacity for their entire 100+ years until they finally succumb to disease, fire, or removal. Our UK friends are probably aware of the Original Bramley tree (the originator of the Bramley variety, a cooking apple which is popular in England and Wales, but not well-known in the USA). It is over 200 years old and, astonishingly, is still bearing....although sadly it has contracted a fungus that will kill it at some point. Fortunately, plant scientists have successfuly taken samples and propagated it.

Okay.....enough about apples......

My background was made using Walnut Stain crystals. These are like Brushos, but coarser crystals rather than a powder. I stamped my sentiment and tree directly on the background and then "dry smooshed" Distress Ink for the red leaves. Dry smooshing is my own term for applying the distress ink to my acrylic block and NOT misting before smooshing onto my paper. After doing that several times, I misted the remnants on my block very, very slightly and smooshed some more. The main thing was that I did not want a watery, muddy look as the red and brown got activated together!!
Supplies used include:
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set
Winnie & Walter - Kindness with Evelin T Designs stamp set
Versafine Ink in Black Onyx
Distress Ink in Candied Apple
Ranger - TH Distress Marker in Walnut Stain
Imagine Crafts Walnut Ink Crystals
Tonic Studios - Nuvo Crystal Drops
Ribbon from my stash

Hi, Friends......

I am here today with a rustic Christmas card for the wonderful Winnie & Walter September Color Combo Challenge:

I also am linking this up to Darnell's NBUS #12 Challenge where she asks us to use some Never Before Used Schtuff that we have in our stash. This time my NBUS item is a recent acquisition...a JOY die from Winnie & Walter. LOVE!!!

I fussy cut the poinsettias and added a second layer over the top by cutting an additional "inside"  for more fullness. (That's a TON of scissors-work for someone like me whose crafting tends more toward accidental amputations of unsuspecting flower petals and cute critter limbs rather than artistic fussy cutting!!) I stamped the solid leaves with a contrasting vein and then outlined them with a distress marker before fussy cutting, so they wouldn't get lost against the background. I wasn't sure if the poinsettia leaves would look too weird (like, ummmm...DEAD!) if I stayed with the color combo and didn't use green. But I think they look okay in the DI Antique Linen. I went over all the flowers and leaves with Wink of Stella for some holiday sparkle.

Supplies used include:
Winnie & Walter - In a Word: Joy die
Winnie & Walter - In Bloom: Hollie's Festive Florals stamp set
Versafine ink in Satin Red and Vintage Sepia
Distress Marker in Vintage Photo
Distress Ink in Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap, Gathered Twigs, and Walnut Stain
The Paper Studio - Woodgrain embossing folder
Zig - Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush Pen
Adhesive rhinestones from my stash in a tan color
DCWV Glitter cardstock
Core'dinations heavy duty white cardstock for dry embossed background

Hope you enjoyed seeing my card. This is the last day (actually this is a bonus day, but who's counting?  lol...) for Darnell's NBUS #12 Challenge and there are just two more days for the W&W Color Combo Challenge, so hurry if you want to join in!! See you there!!  Thank you so much for stopping by.

Hi, Friends.......

I got super-inspired by the wonderful Winnie & Walter September Color Combo Challenge. The deadline is still several days away and I had two more ideas I wanted to do with these fabulous colors!

One of my ideas was for a sunset night sky. I sponged distress inks over kraft and splattered with watered down gesso. I colored my sweet critters with Prismacolor pencils and blended with thinner. I am totally IN LOVE with how this turned out!!!

I even got super-brave and drew in some grass on the hillsides with my Pigma .005 black marker!!!  EEK....that was scary....I was so afraid I would mess up the entire background!  I like how it looks with the wisps of grass, though.  Whew....

Supplies used include:
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set (pierced rectangle panel)
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Audrey Cutaways die set (little hearts)
Winnie & Walter - Big Hugs with Evelin T Designs stamp set
Winnie & Walter - Big Hugs with Evelin T Designs die set
Versafine ink in Vintage Sepia

Prismacolor Colored Pencils
Winsor & Newton - Sansodor Thinner
Winnie & Walter - Sketchy Thoughts stamp set (sentiment)
Distress Ink in Candied Apple, Fired Brick, Frayed Burlap, Ground Espresso, and Black Soot
Daler-Rowney - Simply Acrylic White Gesso
Pigma Micron Black Pens set of 8

Hope you enjoyed seeing my sunset sky card. There's still time to join in the Winnie & Walter September Color Combo Challenge so I hope to see you there!

Hi, Friends.....

I am back with a masculine card to share. I got super-inspired by the wonderful Winnie & Walter September Color Combo Challenge:

I also am linking this up to Darnell's NBUS #12 Challenge where she asks us to use some Never Before Used Schtuff that we have in our stash.

I pulled out my long-hoarded NBUS Tim Holtz Idea-ology Ephemera Pack - Expedition and started putting together a collage card. Fun!

Hey, you guys...I even used a STENCIL!!! Yay!!

I like the funky look of mixing modern sentiment fonts with the vintage ephemera.  These proper gentlemen with the speech balloon containing an informal light-hearted font makes me chuckle and apparently cracks them up, too!  More on that in a moment.  :)

I had (what I thought was) a great idea.....(Oh, no! Janis is getting experimental again!!!)...I can make the photos of the men stand out and look time-worn by coating the piece with Crackle Accents. Well, in retrospect, I prob should have just used Glossy Accents or nothing at all. I love the crackly appearance, but it is unpredictable and this piece was pretty thin so it didn't work all that great. It is okay and I obviously still used it, but I am not just loving it. If you want to see a project I made where the Crackly Accents turned out perfect, click HERE (if you dare...)!

Supplies used include:
Winnie & Walter - Scenery: Multi-Faceted Creative Screenings
Distress Ink - Walnut Stain
Winnie & Walter - Sketchy Thoughts stamp set
Winnie & Walter - Sketchy Thoughts die set
Versafine Ink - Onyx Black
Tim Holtz Idea-ology Ephemera Pack - Expedition
Inkssentials - Crackle Accents (was Ranger brand)
Twine from my stash

Hope you enjoyed my collaged ephemera card. Thank you always for your visits and comments. You make my day!!!

Hi, Friends....

I'm here with a sweet card I made as a last-minute entry for the Winnie & Walter Rerun #23 Challenge - Tree for all Seasons. I don't have the rerun set, so I drew inspiration from a couple of the fabulous cards featured on that post: the colors from Heather's gorgeous card and the springy feel to one of Kelly's cards. Aren't they beautiful!!!

I also am linking this up to Darnell's NBUS #12 Challenge where she asks us to use some Never Before Used Schtuff that we have in our stash. I ordered these wee pastel buttons a few months ago not having any idea how verrrrrrrrrrry tiny they are (perhaps "micro-mini" in the product description should have given me a clue!!! lol....)....so there they sat NBUS-ing in my stash. Turns out that they are the perfect size for "blossoms" in my tree today!

Supplies used include:
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set
Winnie & Walter - Kindness with Evelin T Designs stamp set
Versafine Ink - Smokey Gray
Ranger - TH Distress Markers
Dress It Up Micro-Mini Button Mix - Innocence
Ranger - Multi Medium Matte
Sheet from my stack of "Leftover Easter Egg Dye Backgrounds" on mixed media paper
Hope you enjoyed a little break from autumn colors to take a peek at what our friends in the Southern Hemisphere are getting to see right now! Thank you so much for stopping by!!!

Hi, Friends......

Just a quick post to thank each of you who commented on my coffee card and to announce the winner of my $10 Starbucks Gift Card Giveaway from this post.

Congratulations goes to:  VINITA JAIN

Vinita, I know you are an international participant.  Do they even have Starbucks where you live????  Please email me with your snail mail address so I can send you the GC or a different little prize, if you prefer.  Congratulations again!
